Age Unknown
they/them, He/Him
Species unknown

Notes: a manchild
Appearance
The Game Master is a purple-pink-skinned humanoid creature. They have black claws, a grey/white beard and mustache, snaggly fangs and red rings around their yellow eyes. They seem to be of average weight, although most of their body is hidden. They wear a purple cloak with black and gold detailing. They hold a pointy, crooked staff that also has black and gold detailing. Their cloak is held shut with an iridescent green and red scarab broach. Using the same color scheme as their broach is their pointed helmet with decorative horns.
Personality
The Game Master wouldn’t be the game master if they were not controlling. The Game Master is watchful, quick to interfere and possibly even a little paranoid. They are also prone to emotional outbursts, typically of the negative kind, but they will not lash out and attack unless they feel they must to stay in control. For all their supposed prestige, not to mention the fact that they’re in charge of a series of magical trials, you’d think the Game Master would be… mature? But no. The Game Master, although they put up an act of mysticism and authority, is quite childlike in their heart. This is perhaps most apparent when they show their enthuse for the games.
Background
As the Game Master has made it a point (obnoxiously so sometimes) to be a mysterious overseer, their past is largely unknown. They do sometimes allude to their childhood, often in a positive sense. In their words, they were “wild and free” as a child. If their personality now is anything to judge by, one can assume they were quite a handful to whoever was caring for them – if anyone was caring for them at all. At some point in their childhood, they met a giant green scarab beetle and befriended it. There is also something they want to hide, but can’t help but to let slip through the cracks: something traumatizing. Something happened a long time ago, but the Game Master is viciously adamant in their denial of it.
At some point, the Game Master discovered the island and took it over. The island and its residents existed before the Game Master came. The residents see the Game Master as their ruler, protector and provider: almost like a combination mayor and king. Somehow, the Game Master gives to the community, allowing it to thrive while apparently cut off from the world. They built their tower, as well as the housing for those participating in the games, some time after their arrival. Many of those under the Game Master see the games as a sort of sporting or entertainment event and will happily watch the Challenges. Residents will tell you that this is the first time the Game Master has done the games, but they have been talking about it to their subjects for a long time. Controlling as they are, it’s obvious the Game Master cares about those under their rule.
Where and when they learned the great control of magic they must have needed to do all these great things is a mystery. Their massive mount/familiar scarab, whom they gave the ingenious name "Beetle", is also of unknown origin. One thing is certain: getting the Game Master to elaborate is like pulling teeth.
