Maul
Wands
21 years old
she/her
rodent/canine hybird
oc
Notes: make the scary porcupine go away
Appearance
Maul takes the appearance of an unholy amalgamation of a wolf and a porcupine. She has medium length blue-grey fur with a grey undercoat. She has long legs and vaguely racoon-like paws/hands. Her back is covered with silvery spines that are at their longest behind her head and on her tail. The top of her back is dark blue, as are her paws, ear rims and eye marks. Her teeth are primarily dull and pointed with four doglike canines and long rodentlike incisors in the front. There is a scar across her sloping nose. Her eyes are pale blue and almost always widened regardless of her mood.
Personality
Maul has no redeeming qualities. This isn’t even a joke. Just being around Maul for a few seconds is enough to let the bad vibes sink in. She has absolutely zero regard for life: possibly not even her own. Maul is only loyal to those she deems worthy: and those who watch her attention have to be the strongest and the baddest around. The only ones worth working alongside her are warlords: anything less is only fuel for this creature’s burning desire to impress said warlords. She will do anything to win the desire of whatever warrior she’s throwing herself at. This isn’t to say Maul isn’t a warrior in her own right. Maul will try to fight and kill anyone: no matter how much she’s outmatched, no matter what the other says. Begging for mercy? There’s no mercy here. A horrific injury? That won’t stop Maul for long. Mothers and babies? Meat. Any wish for the object of her affection is her command. And if Maul hasn’t chosen a prospective mate, her behavior is hardly altered: corruption is her entire existence. It’s simply what she is.
Background
Maul began life within the “Warren” a decaying human town populated by other hybrid animals. These animals were alone: left to solve the problems of life after a devastating war by themselves. The humans have abandoned these monstrosities. The Warren was the biggest population of these animal hybrids around and it was ruled by a massive tyrannical feline named Rancor.
Maul, like many, grew to admire Rancor for his strength. This led her to train to be accepted as one of his guards. While most of the guards only had a healthy respect for Rancor as a provider and warrior, Maul took this a step beyond. Or.. more like, ten steps beyond. Rancor was practically Maul’s god. And Maul wanted nothing more out of life but to make Rancor happy.
At first, this was all well and innocent. Her downward spiral began when she got the idea into her head that she would produce healthy cubs that would grow up into guards to appease Rancor. But this was never to be. Maul took mates and birthed litters of cubs: but none were healthy and all perished before their first year. This was because the Warren was slowly becoming a wasteland, but her beloved Rancor refused to move from his “promised land”. Maul, after the death of so many cubs, eventually began to change from depressed to numb. For all her trouble and her failure at starting a family, warlord Rancor barely even noticed her.
In her adulthood, Maul settled upon a new direction to take her life. The world is cruel and uncaring: much like her leader. This was what Maul saw as perfection in its natural form: pure concentrated strength and veracity. This was what Maul decided she would be. And so, she turned herself into a monster so deranged that even the other guards stay away from her if they can help it. Surely Rancor would see her beauty and at last sire her a healthy batch of cubs? No. Now Rancor too tries to avoid the spiky devil, preferring his underlings have to interact with the likes of her.
Now taken to the island, Maul sees this as a fresh start: to prove her virulence in an all new setting. She’ll never change.
